First Day Of Summer

Today is the first day of summer.  And we hit 102* today.  And of course, the wind died.  It was no where to be seen.  Luckily, I fixed the whole house fan.  So between it and closing all the windows and blinds, we haven't had a need to turn the AC on yet.  But I'm sure the time to do that is right around the corner.  Rionn keeps asking when it's going to rain.  We just keep telling him we live in the desert, no more rain.  We've already had 3 times our annual rain anyways.  We'll try to keep cool and enjoy our summer vacation.

I Hope It Was A Great Day

Today is Father's Day.  And well, Cole has got to be the best dad around.  Of course, I'm a little bit biased.  But the look that Rionn gets when ever Cole walks into the room is priceless.  So i was bound and determined to make today the best for him.  Even if he had to work.  So this morning when I got up, I made banana bread since it's his favorite.  And then Rionn gave him his gifts.  He loves his new 17 pc BBQ set.  It even has it's own carrying case for all of it.  And then of course I got a pickle jar for him.  I know, sounds weird. But Pam's pickle jar is the envy of both of her sons.  So I got Cole one just like his mothers.  LOL!  Anyways, much to our surprise, he got off of work early.  So we were able to eat dinner together.  And then we ended our celebration with cake.  His request of white cake with cream cheese frosting.  Not to sure if I would make it again, but that's what the father in this house requested.  So that's what he got.  He says it was a good day.  And I hope it was.  Because it seems so minimal for a great father, husband, and friend.

Second Field Trip

For the summer, Rionn is going to summer camp through the city.  Nice thing about it is that it's at the park literally down the block from us.  But it's not as structured as he's used to.  But we're doing ok with it.  He loves it. Mostly because it's all play and swimming every afternoon.  But yesterday he got to go on his second field-trip in his short little life.  It makes Cole and I nervous.  Mostly because we go everywhere together.  He had a blast apparently.  They got to go the local skating rink.  He even got to take his own skates.  And it was also the first time that he got to spend money without us there.  Cole gave him $5 to spend however he wanted.  He wasn't really clear on what he spent it on, just that he didn't use it all on video games.  He also said he was the only one that skated almost the whole time.  He rambled on and on and on all night about his trip.  Next month they are taking the kids to Medieval times.  I might just have to chaperon that one since I've never been either.

It Finally Arrived

The weather here has definitely been strange this year.  We've gotten a lot of rain, and are just now needing to water plants.  Plus, it's been "cool".  Well, as cool as the desert can be.  Usually by Mother's Day we are inching toward triple digits.  So far this year, yesterday was the hottest day at 97.  So I'll take it.  Rionn has been loving being able to play outside without shoes and hats.  But yesterday was a different story.  Not that he had time between day camp and karate.  So last night at dusk we finally went out to play.  And he rode his scooter till almost bed time.
